A meeting of the board of directors of the Atascadero Creek Green Valley Creek Watershed Council was held at 375 Montgomery in Sebastopol on October 7, 2006. Directors Jean Redus, John Roberts, Stephen Fuller-Rowell, Dave Erickson and Bob Burke were present. Jo Benz and Jon Sassin participated in part of the meeting. Jean called the meeting to order at 10:10. Minutes. The draft minutes of the September meeting, as revised by Jean by email, were discussed and approved. Financial Matters. John reported on a disbursement for keeping the Council’s web site operating, and said that he had not reached his counterpart at Forest Unlimited to discuss financial matters, but said that he hoped to do so this week. Atascadero Marsh. Jo Benz reported on approximately 60 acres of property adjacent to the Atascadero, north of Mill Station Road, that is currently undeveloped. The Open Space District had considered it for acquisition at one time, but apparently is no longer considering it for acquisition. Jo said that her report was preliminary, and that she and a few other concerned residents of the watershed would be soon mounting a campaign to try to secure the property as open space. Pitkin Marsh. Jon Sassin, an owner of property near the Pitkin Marsh, east of Highway 116 and north of Templeman Road, and Jo Benz, reported on the recent sale and purchase of approximately 27 acres in the center of the area known as the Pitkin Marsh, which hosts the endangered Pitkin Marsh lily. The new owner has applied to the County for a use permit to develop a 29-bed residential care facility on the property. Jon and Jo identified several concerns about the proposed development. A public hearing for the use permit application is anticipated, but the date is not yet known. The APN for the property is 084-120-034 and the County’s File is UPE-05-0034. Jon and Jo would like to publicize their concerns, and Jean agreed to provide them with contact information for Vesta Copestakes, so the matter can be addressed in the West County Gazette. Newsletter. Jean reaffirmed her willingness to draft for the Council newsletter a report on the plans of the proprietors of Sonoma Wine Company to increase production at their winery in Graton, while reducing both energy consumption and waste production. General Plan Update. Stephen identified several issues to be discussed with Supervisor Mike Reilly at the next future board meeting, some of which relate to issues under consideration in the ongoing General Plan Update process. Stephen agreed to circulate to the board members a brief statement of such issues. Blucher Creek Watershed Council. Bob will be speaking with Jeannette Bamgardnerof the Blucher Creek Watershed Council about holding a joint meeting in December or January, at which the leaders of the U.C.Davis Extension Coho Recovery Project will give a presentation. Other local watershed councils will be invited to participate in joint sessions. Recent Events. Jean reported on the recent creek walk held on the Martinelli Ranch, which was well attended. Stephen reported on recent meetings of the Sonoma County Water Coalition. Upcoming Events. The Water Forum will be held on Saturday, October 14. There will be a creek cleanup on October 21, covering the critch in Graton and places where Atascadero Creek and Green Valley Creek cross primary roads.
The meeting adjourned at 12:15 Respectfully submitted, Bob Burke
